A Step by Step Approach to Improve Public Speaking Skills

From a one-sentence description about your company - to a full-length sales presentation - your professional impression depends on your speaking ability. A strong, effective speech requires: preparation, practice and evaluation...

Preparation is planning, writing and revising to show your personality, to demonstrate your knowledge and to meet your goals. Presenting ideas in a clear and under¬standable way varies with the speech. Participants will learn how to organize a speech and how to make it flow from start to finish.

Practice is editing, refining and applying skills: to produce a smooth and natural speech. Many well researched and written presen¬tations are not successful because the speaker did not practice. Participants will learn and practice different techniques to use when practicing.

Evaluation is the review of a speech: to understand strengths and to find areas for improvement. Using the speech produced during the seminar, participants will be taped and evaluated by the seminar leader and other participants.

Seminar Details

Day 1 - Preparation

Opening

With only 20 to 60 seconds to get and keep an audience’s attention, the opening of a speech or presentation is extremely important. Participants will gain experience in finding the right way to open using quotations, questions, stories, or useful information.

Closing

Leaving an audience with something to think about or a call to action will leave a positive impression. Working with different ideas, you will learn how to finish what you have said.

Body

Presenting ideas clearly depends on the speech. Participants will learn how to organize a speech and how to make it flow from start to finish and through each point.

Day 2 - Practice

Practice

Many well researched and written presentations are not successful as the speaker did not practice. Participants will learn and practice different techniques to use when practicing.

Body Language and Gestures

Audiences remember more about how you say something. Participants will learn natural gestures that add to, not take from a speech.

Day 3 - Speaking

Practice

Using the speech produced during the earlier parts of the seminar, participants will be evaluated by the seminar leader and other participants.
